History

BKL’s roots reach back to 1946, when William J. Fell co-founded Fell and Wheeler, Consulting Engineers, in Tulsa. Through the years, we have been involved with many high profile projects in the region.

The following timeline lists notable events in the evolution of our firm.

Founded

  • Fell and Wheeler, Consulting Engineers, started practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Growing Our Team

  • Frank S. Brusso and Robert O. Bruton became associates of the firm
1963

Transitioning

  • William J. Fell and Associates with William J. Fell as sole owner was organized

Adding Partners

  • Frank S. Brusso and Robert O. Bruton became partners in the firm
1969

Updating Our Brand

  • Our name changed to Fell-Brusso-Bruton. We primarily operated as a consulting engineering firm handling civil and electrical engineering projects. Billy C. Knowles was also added to the staff

Adding Partners

  • Billy C. Knowles, AIA Architect, and Otis C. Courtright, PE, became partners in the firm
1976

Change in Partners

  • In January, another change in partners took place, and the firm became known as Fell Brusso Bruton & Knowles, Inc.

Growing Our Team

  • Kim Reeve, a graduate architect, was hired
1978

Remembering Legacy

  • Frank S. Brusso passed away March 3, 1978, and William J. Fell passed away July 17, 1978
1978

Company Growth

  • We acquired Cantrell Surveying Company. In November, Fell Brusso Bruton & Knowles, Inc. merged with Love Engineering Company
1982

Updating Our Brand

  • Our name changed to Bruton, Knowles & Love, Inc.

Growing Our Team

  • George Rochelle, PE, joins the company. Stacy Loeffler, a recent Civil Engineering graduate, also joins the firm
1998

Transitioning

  • Kim Reeve, George Rochelle, and Stacy Loeffler purchase the company from Robert O. Bruton and Billy C. Knowles. The company name is changed to BKL, Inc.
1998

Updating Leadership

  • Kim Reeve becomes President, George Rochelle becomes Vice-President, and Stacy Loeffler becomes Secretary/Treasurer
2004

Transitioning

  • Robert O. Bruton retires from BKL, Inc. on December 31, 2004
2008

Moving HQ

  • BKL, Inc. purchases the historic “TulOil” building at 1623 E. 6th Street and renovates it for the new company headquarters
2012

Company Growth

  • BKL, Inc. acquires the assets of Todd Engineering in Oklahoma City and opens the Oklahoma City office. George Rochelle manages this office
2013

Remembering Legacy

  • On February 5, 2013, Billy C. Knowles passed away
