Broken Arrow Justice Center
Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
Summary
BKL designed a multi-use justice center for the City of Broken Arrow that houses its municipal courtroom, court clerk and jail, as well as various support functions for the city’s police department. The exterior of the building is designed to convey the stature of a public courthouse rather than a typical jail to ensure the neighborhood character is not damaged.
Details
Located adjacent to the existing police station, the facility houses additional support functions for the department including its locker rooms, evidence storage and forensic lab. The jail is currently capable of housing up to 24 inmates, but the building is designed to allow for expansion of the jail, as well as additional courtroom and office space.
The exterior of the building is designed to convey the stature of a public courthouse rather than a typical jail, and to ensure the building fits seamlessly with the existing neighborhood’s character. The building is concrete and masonry to provide a durable, easily maintained facility.
The facility can also be used as a public meeting space.
