Broken Arrow Public Safety Complex

Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

The City of Broken Arrow selected BKL by a competitive interview process to design the Broken Arrow Public Safety Complex. The National Guard Armory was given to Broken Arrow under the provision that it be used for public safety. BKL designed the complex to house the Police and Fire Department Headquarters along with the E911 and Emergency Operations Center. The existing building is about 52,000 square feet.

BKL began by touring E911/EOC facilities in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area with the Broken Arrow Police Department. Extensive interviews were then conducted with the Police, Fire, E911 and EOC staff of the City of Broken Arrow along with tours of the existing facilities to assess the current operating procedures. BKL then produced a preliminary “Needs Assessment” study that provided the functions, required square footage and functional relationships for all of the needs for the facility. This study was reviewed at length with the Police and Fire Department staff and refined. The Needs Assessment Study was then completed along with a preliminary lay-out of the facility. Following approval by the Owner, the design work went forward.

During the construction document process, BKL met with the Police and Fire Department staff multiple times to inform and receive feedback on the details of the building functions. BKL provided full civil site design for the entire facility including modifying access to the site.
